Niger Republic Coup: Yoruba Indigenes Foundation cautions West African leaders against military intervention
The Yoruba Indigenes Foundation (YIF) has cautioned and appeal to the Economic Community of West Africa States(ECOWAS) to avoid introducing military intervention in solving the ongoing crisis in Niger Republic.
Penpushing reports that the Foundation in an appeal filed through Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu which was signed by Sanjo Olawuyi, the President of the group, warned that any force to displace the coupits may escalate beyond expectations
The President of Yoruba Indigenes Foundation (YIF), in a statement made available by Director of Communications and Strategies Sanjo Olawuyi noted that the use of force will claim huge loss of lives and properties
‘Invariably, military approach in Niger Republic will reflect into: huge loss of lives and properties of innocent citizens of Niger Republic; it will precipitate into massive cross border illegal emigration; outbreak of epidemics in Niger Republic, which will spread to their neighboring countries’, the statement emphasized.
‘It will result into wastage of large sum of money, which may translate into billions of dollars; it will cause disability and civil unrest in Niger Republic; businesses and economic activities will be adversely affected; hunger and starve will emanate in the country”, the statement added
Penpushing further reports that the Yoruba Indigenes Foundation (YIF) President, however, proffered better solution to address the issues such as an high powered consultations, negotiations and dialogue, speedy installation of civilian interim administration and staging of referendum in the country.
The foundation posited that if President Tinubu could be able to convinced other West African leaders to use constitutional approach rather than military intervention to address the problems, his name will be written in gold
