Neuropsychiatric Hospital evacuates vagrants on streets, provides free medical services

The management of Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro, Abeokuta has embarked on evacuation of vagrants from the streets and their subsequent admission, the exercise which is continuation of its free medical services and health campaigns for the residents.

Penpushing reports that the exercise which is Nigerian government medical outreach took place on Wednesday in some major parts of Abeokuta, Ogun State, while the authorities confirmed that it is going to be a continues exercise and ready to provide them medicare.

The exercise which is a continuation of it’s free medical services and health campaigns had earlier offered residents of Abeokuta South Local Government Area the benefits held at Centenary Hall, Abeokuta and its designed to cover all six local government of the Ogun Senatorial District with over 200 beneficiaries in attendance, as well as medical personnel of the institution engaging them in health talk.

Penpushing further reports that the train of the exercise later moved to Mowe-Ibafo town in Obafemi-Owode local government area on May 30, 2025 at Mother and Child Hospital, Ashimolowo in the town

The Secretary to the Medical Outreach Committee and Information Officer of the hospital, Oluwabunmi Ojomo explained that the initiative was part of the Nigerian government’s ongoing efforts to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

Penpushing also reports that she recalled the exercise were equally held at Kurere village in Ewekoro Local Government, the Primary School opposite Olowu’s Palace in Abeokuta, Abeokuta North local government

The committee scribe added that some of the vagrants picked from the metropolis have started receiving treatment in the hospital as at the time of filing this report, stating the management has been making significant strides in providing healthcare services to residents of the state.

Penpushing reports that Ojomo disclosed that the committee has attended to over 1,000 patients since the commencement of the outreaches offering free medical care and mental health services, adding that the outreach has been successful, with a large turnout of participants in each location.

The Mowe outreach recorded over 300 patients, providing them with necessary medical care and attention, with number of beneficiaries commending the government and the  hospital management for the initiative

Penpushing further reports that one of the beneficiaries Mrs. Fadekemi Adejuwon, expressed gratitude and appreciation for the organizers’ efforts and equally shared her experience and praised the program’s excellent medical services.

The beneficiary, a resident of Ashinolowo who was diagnosed with hypertension and received medication for it, praised the medical aspect of the program, which she described as excellent, adding that the officials attended to them professionally.

“For now, they’re trying, and I don’t see any loopholes. This is the first time we’re receiving this service, and look at the crowd! They’re giving us free medications, so we’re grateful’, the woman emphasised

‘The committee’s ability to adapt to the unexpected demand is commendable, and their dedication to providing healthcare services to those in need is truly appreciated. It’s heartening to see organizations like this working tirelessly to make a positive impact in their communities’.

Penpushing also reports that Adejuwon, however, advised other hospitals to take a cue from the management of the management of Neuropsychiatric Hospital for the laudable exercise

The Chairman and Consultant Family Physician, Dr. Mrs. Lydia Egua emphasizes the program’s commitment to providing preventive, promotive and curative medical services on the field affirming that a team of qualified and experienced medical personnel were available to attend to all  beneficiaries needs.

Penpushing reports that she said the outreach utilizes various materials to check different parts of the body, assessing overall body system health, affirming that a team of qualified and experienced medical personnel were available to attend to patients’ needs.

The Physician added that the outreach is a continuation of the program’s ongoing efforts to take medical care to all and sundry appreciated the federal government and the management of Neuropsychiatric Hospital Aro lead by Dr Paul Agboola for the laudable initiative.

Penpushing further reports that Egua said the team took thorough care of the patients, conducting necessary screenings and providing medication to help manage their conditions and equally expressed delight at the massive turnout at the outreach program., as well as provision of insectide  treated nets  given to the vulnerable age groups  and pregnant women .
