National Broadcasting Commission suspends Human Rights Radio over misconduct
The National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) has suspended the Human Rights Radio for two weeks for a clear violation of the broadcasting code, a fallout of allegation against the producer of Brekete Family Show,Ahmed Isah having slapped an interviewee.
Penpushing reports that, a statement from the commission announcing suspension of the station said a meeting was held with the presenter popularly known as Ordinary President on Tuesday where he explained all that led to the unfortunate event which happened at his station.
The commission emphasised that, it has over the years warned and fined the station which hosts the popular Brekete Family Show over repeated cases of abuse, denigrating remarks, flagrant abuse of fairness, balance and fair hearing.
Penpushing further reports that, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) pronounced the suspension of the station until “the broadcaster commits to ethical and professional broadcasting; the suspension order is effective from Monday, May 31, 2021.”
The order also has it that, after the one month sanction period within which the station must have put its house in order and attune itself with responsive, responsible and professional broadcasting, the station shall pay a recommencement fee in line with the broadcasting code.
Penpushing reports that the presenter was seen in a video clip of the documentary which was aired on May 17, 2021, where he lose control and slap the female interviewee identified as Susan.
The lady was accused of burning her little niece’s hair whom she claimed is a witch, and from the documentary, the little girl suffered burns on her head,but after a public condemnation of the presenter’s act, he apologized to Nigerians for his violent reaction.
