Baby delivered by coronavirus patient in Ogun state to undergo test

The baby delivered by a coronavius infected mother at State Hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital has been taken to isolation centre and sample taken to undergo coronavirus test, as a way to determine her health status

Penpushing reports that  Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker made this known while speaking with journalists, adding that both mother and child as at the time of filing this report are doing well

“A team of our Obstetrics and Gynecologists, Pediatricians and Nurse anesthetists delivered the woman with COVID-19 of a 3.1kg baby girl. The baby was delivered via normal birth on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. The mother and baby are doing well.

“Before the delivery, the mother had visited for regular ante-natal, on 18th June, 2020, she showed COVID-19 symptoms and was tested; her result came back positive. She was monitored up to expected delivery date and delivered of the baby girl. Sample of the baby has been sent for COVID-19 screening”, she said

The commissioner expressed appreciation to the frontline staff for their commitment and achievement, as well as the support of the Federal Government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Penpushing further reports that, Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro admonished the public not to entertain fear, as necessary precautions had been taken and all concerned premises decontaminated.

The father of the newborn, who craved anonymity, appreciated God and Ogun health workers for safe delivery of the baby at this period, advising the general public to follow laid down guidelines on coronavirus.

“I strongly believe that COVID-19 exists, I want to encourage people that test positive not to see it as a death sentence, it is something that is manageable. When I was told that my wife has the virus, I subjected her to self-isolation at home, which she did”, he stated
