Motorcycle operators lament ibadan explosion
The Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) has commiserated with the Oyo State Government as well as families of residents who lost their lives following explosion which rocked Bodija area of Ibadan, the state capital.
Penpushing reports that the National President of the union, Alhaji Rasak Olusola Sotayo in a letter of condolence over the sad development explained that he was more touched having spent a significant part of his life in the affected areas.
‘I extend my deepest condolences to the Government and people of Oyo State following the tragic explosions that occurred yesterday evening in the Old Bodija area of Ibadan. Having been born in Ibadan and lived in Bodija for a significant part of my life, I am very familiar with the affected areas and indeed the homes of some of our family friends are affected’, he wrote.
Penpushing further reports that Sotayo pointed out that his thought and prayers were with the victims of the explosion, prayed that the souls of those who lost their lives will rest in perfect peace, while those injured will be granted perfect healing
‘My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tragedy. May the souls of those who lost their lives rest in eternal peace and may the injured be granted perfect healing. Amen’, Sotayo emphasized
Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that Bodija axis of Ibadan, on Tuesday night experienced explosion said to claim number of lives, as well as properties which include hundreds of houses collapsed
The state government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, however, confirmed the explosion, adding that the residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm
‘Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening. There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in full control of the unfortunate occurrence in order to mitigate the incident’, Oyelade wrote.
“All security service chiefs including paramilitary chiefs and Fire Operatives have been deployed by the Governor to Reign in the spillover from the explosion. His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after’, he added
Penpushing further reports that some residents confirmed the explosion, while there were also videos online that showed a dusty cloud and burning houses and cars, while unconfirmed report has it that it was a gas explosion while another said it was a filling station
“It is true. We all heard the sound and it was very loud. The cloud is cloudy with smoke. it happened at Bodija and we in the UI area could see the smoke. Even those at Sango and Ojo heard the sound. In fact, we are all in a room scared for our life’ a university undergraduate said
Penpushing also reports that another resident of Barika, about 15 minutes away from the site of the blast, Motunrayo Adegboro equally confirmed the incident, claiming that it happened in Bodija, while a mall collapsed
The female resident emphasized that some people claimed it was a gas explosion while others said it was a filling station, stressing that it happened in Bodija, area of the town and that a mall, Ace Mall even collapsed.
