Moshood Abiola Polytechnic lecturers threaten strike over unpaid five months salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, (ASUP) Moshood Abiola Polytechinc (MAPOLY) Chapter has threatened to go on strike for nonpayment of five months running salaries and allowances to the members.
Penpushing reports that, the Chairman of the union, Babatunde Osifalujo in a communique and signed after an emergency meeting held on Monday 21st of December lamented the non-payment which became an untold hardship for members
The congress observed that the apparent indifference of the management to the union wellbeing is disdain, noting that the union’s correspondences are not even acknowledged, nor issues addressed;
“The apparent indifference of the management to the union member’s wellbeing. This is exemplified in the disdain with which the union’s correspondences are treated. The union’s correspondences are not even acknowledged not to talk of addressing their issues therein’, Osifalujo stated.
Penpushing further reports that, the communiqué stated that, the nonchalant attitudes of management to issues outstanding promotion of the union’s members for 2017, 2018,2019, and 2020 thereby, denying the union member’s of their deserving career growth for the period of four years is ridiculous.
The union also pointed out that, non payment of honoraria of part-time classes/ lectures for five consecutive semesters was another worrisome issue, adding that, the vacuum created as a result of absence of Governing Council for a long period of time is uncalled for.
Penpushing reports that, this has resulted to failure in addressing the issues of staff promotion and appointments, staff welfare and appointments of substantive Rector for the Polytechnic.
The union equally resolved that, the management should immediately come out with a roadmap for 2021, detailing the Polytechnic’s income and expenditure, and sources of financing its deficit.
“This is necessary as we cannot afford going blindly to another new year of agony and uncertainty. The Ogun state government should commence the process of putting in place a functional Governing Council for the Polytechnic.
‘The Government should also, immediately appoint a substantive Rector for the institution.The union member’s should be paid least three months the outstanding salaries. The long overdue of 2017 promotion and appointments must be completed. With the staff concerned receiving their letter, not later than 31st of December, 2020’, the union emphasised.
Penpushing further reports that, the union warned that, failure to accede to the foregoing as demanded, shall resume its work-to-rule effective from 2nd January 2021.
