Minister Salako seeks lawyers support for environmental regulation

The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako has solicited the support of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the area of regulations to ensure environmental sustainability and proper implementation and enforcement of Environmental laws.

Penpushing reports that Salako made the call when Ogun State Chapter of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ilaro Branch, led by its Chairman, Chief Israel Talabi paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The Minister who is a member of Penpushing Platform assured the association that the issue of pollution, flooding, erosion and other environmental challenges confronting the people of Yewa area in Ogun West would be addressed, in due course.

Penpushing further reports that he expressed appreciation to the association, with assurance that his Ministry will continue to collaborate with the body to move the environment sector forward so as to achieve the mandate of President Tinubu’s renewed hope in the environment sector.

The Chairman of the association, earlier in his speech explained that the purpose of visit was to congratulate, identify, associate with the Minister on his recent appointment as the Minister of Environment.

Penpushing also reports that Talabi, however, appealed to the Minister for his immediate intervention for the Yewa people on the challenges of pollution due to mining activities and erosion facing the area and environs.

The Head, Press and Public Relations Unit of the Ministry Ibrahim Haruna in a statement said in similar development, the Minister during a television interview disclosed that the challenges envisaged from the opening of Lagdo dam from Cameroon, is not as acute as predicted in Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that the statement said the authority from Cameroon has communicated to Nigeria that the release of the water has been stopped, adding that  the challenges of flood is not yet over because some part of the country is still experiencing torrential rainfall which can cause flash flood, river over flow, while those in river bank can also experience flooding.
