Man jailed 12 years for raping two minors in Calabar

The family court in Calabar, Cross Rivers State has sentenced a man, Godswill Brownson to twelve years imprisonment having found guilty of  raping two minors, whose ranges between five and seven year.

Penpushing reports that the convict who is a resident in the same neighbourhood with the children who were living with their mother and their grandmother took advantage of the children because of his closeness to the family.

The Principal partner of the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Calabar, Barrister James Ibo, which invited the police to investigate the rape case while speaking pointed out that, the convict is an acquaintance in the neighbourhood who engaged the innocent girls in multiple sexual abuse

‘The man is an acquaintance in the neighbourhood. So sometimes, unsuspecting, you’ll just allow your children to be with everybody around. It was multiple (sexual abuse), it wasn’t just once”, he stated

The man was found guilty on Wednesday by Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Akon Ikpeme who sentenced him  to 12 years in imprisonment.

Penpushing reports that, Ibor who is a lawyer  thanked the Chief Judge, Mrs Ikpeme; the Commissioner of Police in Cross River, Kayode Sikir; the Attorney General of the state, Tango Ashang; the prosecutor, Blessing Egwu; and the workers at the Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO) for the successful prosecution of the case.
