Man impregnates14-year old daughter in Bayelsa state
A 38-year old man, residing in Yenagoa, of Bayelsa State has been arrested by the police for allegedly impregnating his 14-year old daughter, and would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded
Penpushing reports that, the suspect who hails from Ogani Wily Kaira, Ogoni, Rivers was said to have been sexually abusing the innocent girl at age 7, and was arrested following a formal complaint from Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT), a Non Governmental Organisation in the state.
The coordinator, of the organisation, Dise Ogbise, said on Friday in Yenagoa, that some members of the public reported the case, adding that the man was thereafter taken into police custody immediately people reported that the girl was five months pregnant for the father.
Penpushing further reports that the coordinator of the Non Governmental Organisation said the girl needed a lot of support to enable her to go through the rigours of pregnancy at a very tender age.
The coordinator of Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT), appreciated the neighbour who hinted the organization over the worry and disturbing development, adding that the sex-maniac man had been violating the girl and things got worse when the victim’s mother died a few years ago.
Penpushing also reports that, Ogbise called on residents of the state to be vigilant and endeavour to alert the team, as well as other gender advocacy groups in the state, of any case of girl child abuse.
The coordinator disclosed that the Bayelsa State Government has promised to provide psychological and sundry support for the victim, adding that the authorities will ensure that the girl continues her education
“The government will ensure she continues her education. The victim, a Junior Secondary School student who aspires to be a musician, will be assisted to achieve her life goal’, Ogbise assured.
Penpushing reports that, the Bayelsa State Police Command Public Relations Officer,, Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident, assuring that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
