Mahama officially declares president-elect of Ghana
The former President John Mahama has officially been announced as the winner of 2024 Presidential election held in Ghana, having polled about 6.3 million votes, against his opponent and incumbent Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia, who scored 4.5 million votes.
Penpushing reports that the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana made the official announcement explaining that Mahama, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), defeated the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mahamadu Bawumia, by 1.7 million votes.
The Chairman of the electoral commission Jean Mensa, said Mahama having secured more than 50 per cent of the total votes was elected President, explaining that the opponent having concede defeat, even before the official declaration showed that the election was fair and credible.
Penpushing further reports that the former president won 13 regions, while Bawumia, won in only three regions, while record has it that twelve candidates participated in Saturday’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
