Leadership Empowerment International Conference calls for value-driven leadership culture in Nigeria

The Leadership Empowerment International Conference on Friday called for values-driven leadership culture in Nigeria stressing that the quality of leadership is shaped by the mindset and values of the governed.
Penpushing reports that, this was centre of discussion at a programme organized by Priesthood Leadership Development Initiative (PLDI)held at the Continent Hotels and Suites Event Hall, located along Presidential Boulevard, in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital
The conference which is day one of the programme scheduled to round off on Saturday with award ceremony to some notable individuals stated that no country can progress without followers actively holding leaders accountable.
Penpushing further reports that speakers at the conference emphasized that leaders emerge from the pool of followers, and the values they carry into leadership are products of their upbringing, family, and community influence.
The conference pointed out that moral decay in Nigerian society, where the focus has shifted to wealth and materialism rather than service is worrisome, calling for a restructuring of minds to promote accountability and patriotism among citizens.
Penpushing also reports that the conference noted the dangers of insincerity in leadership, likening it to the “Iscariot brand” capable of destroying nations, ministries, and families.
The religious leaders were urged to be exemplary in character, free from corruption, and intentional in teaching deep patriotism alongside moral values, noting that since most Nigerian leaders emerge from religious backgrounds, faith leaders have a critical role in shaping a generation of honest and selfless public servants.
Penpushing report that the conference stressed that effective followership involves more than blind loyalty, urging followers to develop the courage to challenge and question leaders constructively.
The participants maintained that this active engagement strengthens governance and reduces the risk of abuse of power, pointing out that leadership and followership are inseparable forces in building a nation.
