LAPELEKE COMMUNITY PETITIONS GOVERNOR DAPO ABIODUN OVER ALLEGED PLOT TO INSTALL PARALLEL MONARCH
The copies of the petition were also forwarded to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and Olowu of Owu, Oba Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu, calling for justice.
Penpushing further reports that, the petitioners said there was tension weekend in Lapeleke town over the alleged installation said to be in defiance of Government directive, adding that, there was a convoy of vehicles and fierce looking people, suspected to be thugs, led one Adebari Odekunle.
The community in the petition said, Odekunle, an employee of Lafarge Cement Plc and community leader in the suburb of the town, was alleged to be brandishing a specially designed headgear that looked like a traditional crown, stormed Lapeleke town as a purportedly new crown king of the town.
‘There had been palpable heat in the town before this hour as information had reached the community that in place of their sitting traditional head of the town who had been on the throne for 10 years and who was duly recommended by the community, the Local Government and the traditional prescribed authority of the area, a different person outside the box was allegedly issued with approval letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs’, they stated.
Penpushing further reports that, the petitioners recalled that, the situation was ostensibly calmed down initially following the non-delivery of the appointment letter to Adebari Odekunle after due protests and the subsequent caveat by the directive of the Ogun State Government to suspend all the new appointment of traditional rulers.
‘But in contradiction of the widely publicized government directive, Adebari Odekunle and his sponsors still surfaced at a traditional ruler’s palace in Abeokuta where he was allegedly crowned on Saturday’ ,the protesters emphasised.
Penpushing also reports that, the melee that followed at Lapeleke on Saturday during attempt to import “the crown” into the town attracted the Itori Divisional Police who arrested many of the dramatis personae.
