Lagos state government seals Lekki property over illegal borehole drilling
The Lagos State Government has sealed off a property in Lekki over illegal and unregulated borehole drilling activities, and this followed complaints of environmental violations linked to improper wastewater handling
Penpushing reports that the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known on Monday in a post on X (formerly Twitter) adding that the affected property, Kelly Court is located in NICON Town
The agency in the statement said the borehole drilling was being carried out on the setback of a public drainage system by an unlicensed operator, leading to environmental degradation and damage to public infrastructure.

Penpushing further reports that the statement added that the activity resulted in the discharge of untreated wastewater, posing risks to residents and the surrounding environment.
“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office sealed off Kelly Court, NICON Town, Lekki, and stopped work of the borehole drilling machine after complaints of improper and unregulated borehole drilling activities… by an unlicensed driller causing degradation of the environment, the public road and infrastructures with untreated wastewater,” the statement read.
Penpushing also reports that the agency described the act as a violation of the state’s environmental laws and regulations, and equally warned that such infractions would not be tolerated.
The statement stressed that offenders risk sanctions and possible prosecution, however, urged residents to comply with proper wastewater and environmental management practices to safeguard public health and infrastructure.
Penpushing reports that the agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental standards across the state as part of efforts to maintain a cleaner and safer environment.
