Ladi Adebutu’s political foot soldier, Sunkanmi Oyejide quits peoples democratic party

The political foot soldier of Ladi Adebutu, Governorship Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ogun State, Sunkanmi Oyejide has dumped the party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Penpushing reports that Oyejide, the youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) popularly called Succo in Ogun State, resigned his membership of the opposition party in a letter formally addressed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Hon Abayomi Tella.

The defected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who announced his resignation on Monday hails from Ibara/Onisasa Ward 16 in Abeokuta North local government area, and described his exit as the end of a significant political journey spanning over a decade.

“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party. It has been a remarkable and fulfilling 12-year journey’, Oyejide stated.

Penpushing further reports that he explained that his years in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) provided him with political exposure and personal growth, expressing gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunities accorded to him.

“I am sincerely grateful to the leadership of the party for the opportunity to serve in various capacities. The experience has shaped me politically and personally, and for that, I remain thankful’, he added.

Penpushing also reports that Oyejide in the letter acknowledged several party stakeholders whom he commended for supporting his political career, which include Oladipupo Adebutu; Abayomi Tella; Olumide Aderinokun; Prince Lekan Tejuosho; Olabosipo Ogunsan; Folake Marcus- Bello; Abiodun Ogunremi; Sunday Sholarin; and Yussuf Oshunrinde.

“I wish to express my profound appreciation to all leaders and stakeholders who stood by me throughout my stay in the party. Their encouragement and support remain invaluable,” he added.

Penpushing reports that Oyejide stated that his decision might generate mixed reactions within Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ranks, however, appealed for understanding.

“I understand that this decision may not sit well with everyone. To those who may feel disappointed, I humbly ask for your understanding. Decisions such as this are never taken lightly,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that the defector explained that his resignation was driven by what he described as the need to embrace a new political direction, emphasizing that at this point he believe its time for him to move on to the next phase of his journey.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report the Ogun State Chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was yet to issue any official statement of reaction to Oyejide’s resignation.
