
Journalists among Kano state contingent who died while returning from national sports festival
The Kano State Sports Commission Public Relations Officer and a photojournalist from Express Radio have been identified as part of the athletes and coaches who died in road crash while returning from the just conclude National Sports Festival (NSF) hosted by Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that it is recalled that the tragedy happened on Saturday in Dakatsalle town, about 50 kilometres from Kano city, a sad development which threw the sports world into mourning
The Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, said there were 30 people in the vehicle, adding that the victims include athletes, coaches, health workers, and journalists, adding that emergency responders were quickly sent to the scene.
Penpushing further reports that as at the time of filing this report, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said an investigation is ongoing to find out what caused the crash, however, unconfirmed sources said it might as a result of fatigue on side of the driver.
The Kano State athletes before the sad incident had performed well at the National Sports Festival) NSF) having won 6 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze medals, finishing 13th overall in the country.
Penpushing also reports that the athletes were excited to return home after doing their state proud, but what was meant to be a happy homecoming ended in deep and unforgettable sorrow
