JOURNALIST SHOT IN BAYELSA


in Bayelsa. ‎Penpushing learnt that,the incident occurred a few metres from the victim’s residence at about 10:00 p.m.

The attacked journalist is AIT correspondent attached to Government House in Bayelsa. The case has been reported with the State Police Command,while the Commissioner,Amba Asuquo was quoted that,the police are treating the case as armed robbery.

“It’s an armed robbery incident in which a lone attacker used a locally made pistol. I have been to the hospital to see the victim myself”,he was quoted to have said

He said,the police  have obtained material that could aid in their investigation and possible arrest of the suspect.

However,an eyewitness account added further that,the victim was returning from Shiloh, the annual congress of Winners’ Chapel, when the suspected thief pounced on her.

“Just in front of her house he showed her the gun, took her phone, jewellery and cash,”the witness was quoted.

The witness who identified himself  as Bokoru,said the gunman did not stop there,as he took a step backward and shot the victim.

He added “But the animal didn’t end there. He took steps backwards and shot her at close range even as she gave him no problems,”.

 

 

Speaking on the ugly incident,Gbenga Aruleba, noted that from findings so far,the attack  might be a robbery.

 
His word “From what I gathered from our colleagues who are on the spot and from the police report, I think it’s more of a robbery attack than any other motives,”.
 

“It could be that the attacker was under the influence of some other things, that may be why he had to shoot,”Aruleba a senior of the media station said.

 

In his reaction Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson  expressed shock over the assault and said the state government will pick up medical bills for the victim.

Penpushing recalled that,the attack is coming only months after a radio journalist,Famous Giobaro was assassinated on April 16 in the state.
