Internet fraud: Hushpuppi kept in Chicago metropolitan correctional centre after court first appearance
The arrested alleged notorious internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, is currently in custody of the Metropolitan Correction Centre in Chicago, after his first appearance in court.
Penpushing reports that, 37 year old Hushpuppi, resident of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) was fingered in an internet fraud, arrested and on July 3, extradited to United States of America(USA) to face criminal trial which bothers on stealing millions of dollars from people and companies.
The suspect known for living an extravagant lifestyle and flaunting it on social media, made his maiden appearance on Friday in Chicago, and would be transferred to Los Angeles in the coming days for further trial.
Penpushing further reports that, the suspect who appeared before Judge Jeffery T. Gilbert,during the proceeding was informed of his rights under Rule 20 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the nature of the charges and the maximum penalties, while Santino Coleman of the Federal Defender Panel was assigned as counsel for him
The court ordered that the defendant shall be afforded a reasonable opportunity for private consultation with his counsel while in custody, and requested that during this time, Hushpuppi be given access to a telephone to speak with his lawyer and family in Chicago to prepare for the hearing.
Penpushing also reports that, Attorney appearance for Hushipuppi was filed by Gal Pissetzky of the Pissetzky and Berliner law firm based in Chicago, while at the suspect’s request, and without objection from the American Government, the continued telephonic removal proceeding set for July 8 was suspended and rescheduled for July 13.
