Institute of Criminology Strategic Studies to hold national security summit
The Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies (ICSS) has commenced arrangement for its 2026 national security summit themed “Enhancing National Security: Strategies for a Safer Nigeria’.
Penpushing reports that Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre in Abuja, Hon (Dr) Oyewole Ade Osinaike made this known explaining that it is scheduled to hold in March, in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
The Director General speaking with Penpushing Media stated that the national security summit has consistently served as a strategic platform for redefining Nigeria’s security architecture in response to evolving threats.
Penpushing further reports that he said stakeholders contributions are essential to translating these ideas into actionable frameworks, policy innovations, and implementation strategies that can sustainably enhance national peace, stability, and unity.
The Chief Executive Officer emphasized that drawing from 2025 summit deliberations, Nigeria’s security challenges are multidimensional and interconnected, requiring coordinated, inclusive, and evidence-driven responses.
‘The outcomes of the last summit reaffirmed a shared understanding that Nigeria’s security challenges, ranging from insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping to cybercrime, climate-related conflicts, and social fragmentation are complex, interlinked, and deeply rooted in structural and societal factors’, he stated.
Penpushing also reports that Osinaike pointed out that both scholarly analysis and field experience underscored that fragmented, reactive approaches can no longer deliver sustainable security outcomes.
‘As articulated during the summit, harmony in security demands synergy among government institutions, security agencies, communities, academia, civil society, and the private sector’, Osinaike added.
‘A truly wholistic security paradigm must integrate human security, preventive intelligence, justice and rule of law, digital resilience, environmental protection, and inclusive governance into a single strategic vision’, he said.
‘We are excited to announce the launch of preparations for the 2026 National Security Summit and Exhibition. This upcoming event reflects the current priorities within Nigeria’s security landscape and will feature an expanded program, extended duration, and enhanced exhibition offerings to provide greater value to all participants’.
Penpushing reports that he disclosed that the objectives of the summit include: to facilitate a dynamic platform for sharing diverse perspectives and innovative solutions to Nigeria’s current security challenges.
The others are to strengthen collaborative networks among security professionals and experts across various fields, introduce participants to innovative technologies and advancements in security management and present comprehensive security policies tailored to address Nigeria’s unique needs.
Penpushing further reports that he stressed that contributions and participation of stakeholders will directly impact summit sessions, working groups, and post-summit policy communiqués aimed at influencing national strategy and institutional reforms.
‘We strongly believe that the success of the 2026 summit will depend not only on dialogue but on the quality of contributions that translate ideas into implementable solutions’, he emphasised.
