Insecurity Solution: Media Practitioner advises Tinubu to create internal security ministry to be headed by Gumi

The founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji has advised the President Bola Tinubu led administration to establish the Ministry of Internal Security to be headed by Sheik Ahmad Gumi to pave way for permanent solution in the unending kidnappings in the country.

Penpushing reports that the journalist gave the advice while featuring as a guest analyst on a live weekly radio programme on Fresh F.M radio station tagged, ‘Polity and Governance’,’ which addresses various issues across the globe.

The media practitioner explained that this became necessary in view of the fact that the Islamic cleric is known to have uninterrupted access to the bandits in their base in the forests, and had on a number of times served as negotiator between the bandits and families of the abducted Nigerians, as well as government.

Penpushing further reports that Kayode-Adedeji pointed out that creation of the Ministry and appointment of Gumi as Minister to oversee its affairs, is like putting round peg in a round hole, stressing that if that will solve the insecurity menace it should be explored by the government.

‘I will want to suggest to President Bola Tinubu that if creation of Ministry of Internal Security to be headed by Gumi, who is known to have uninterrupted access to the bandits in the forests will bring permanent solution to the insecurity menace, there is nothing wrong in doing that’, he said

‘This is my own opinion and I think it is no more news that Gumi had on a number of times engaged the bandits in discussions, to pave way for the release of some those abducted persons after handing over ransom to them’, Kayode-Adedeji emphasized.

The award-winning journalist and former Zonal Secretary of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) expressed worry over the spate of kidnappings, maiming and killings of innocent people by these kidnappers, lamenting that children are even the most affected victims, with many of them still in captivity.

Penpushing also reports that he expressed fear that, keeping the children in the forest for months will not produce positive results if they eventually regain freedom, noting that their harsh experiences in captivity may harden them and turn them against the society on the long run.

The Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, it is recalled was on Monday a guest of the nation’s security agents on invitation, and after the meeting Gumi  has disclosed that the Nigerian security agents who invited him over security issues treated him with respect and dignity, adding that the meeting was fruitful.

Penpushing reports that Gumi on his facebook page after honouring the invitation in a statement said he was not above the law, but emphasized that only the innocent are above the law, stressing that there was no cause for alarm

“Last night I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security. There is no cause for alarm. Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying -each in his sphere – to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation. There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect’, he added.

‘We all need as a nation to unite and work in synergy to achieve an everlasting peace. Thank you for your concern. May Allah continue to protect us all from all evil. Amin,” Gumi who has been critical of the security agencies’ handling of banditry activities in the North-West said
