Indigenes celebrate 200 years of Ibadan town’s existence

The Ibadan indigenes have come together to celebrate the 200 years of the town existence, and used the occasion to showcase the custom and tradition of the ancient town, and largest city in West Africa.

Penpushing reports that the programmes of events also include awards for some indigenes which include:  Group Managing Director/CEO, First Bank Plc, Dr. Adesola Adedutan, Engr. Adeyemi Adetunji and Prof. Ago Salami among others.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji  in his remarks called for unity among all sons and daughters of the land, so as to bring development to ancient town, and Oyo State at large.

Penpushing further  reports that the Personal Assistant and Director of Public Affairs to Olubadan, Mr. Adeola Oloko while speaking on behalf of the monarch noted that in other to have stable Ibadan, all indigenes  must come together and work for the progress and development of the land.

“This event is about Ibadan and to showcase the custom and tradition of Ibadan people, so, we are appealing to all Ibadan indigenes to come into one fold and move our land to a greater height’, the royal father emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that, President of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Yemi Soladoye noted that the gathering was unique and historical, adding that the celebration has succeeded in restoration of culture and tradition of  Ibadan land.

The President noted that the yearly cultural celebration added two new dimensions and monumental importance which include resuscitation of Oke’badan Parade and dance, also, establishment of Ibadan War of Fame in Ibadan House for ancient and modern warriors who have brought pride, fame and progress to Ibadanland.

Penpushing reports that, he pointed out that three prominent Ibadan sons who have excelled in their chosen profession to the level of international recognition would be bagged award of the Most Distinguished Ibadan Indigene for this year.

The Central Council boss however said that for Ibadanland to regain her pacesetter status in Nigeria, the indigenes have to set aside entitlement mentality and selfish interests.

Penpushing also reports that, the grandfinale of the 200 years anniversary was preceded by a week conference during which various lectures were delivered by eminent  Ibadan indigenes in various fields  of human endeavour

The Vice  Chairman,Ibadan Cultural Festival 2020  Mr. Abiola Alli, in his remarks explained that the event was not just about celebration, but to have a ten years developmental plan that will produced a blue print to move Ibadanland forward.

‘The grandfinale of the 200 years anniversary was preceded by a week conference during which various lectures were delivered by eminent  Ibadan indigenes in various fields  of human endeavour. The salient points from the conference would used to prepare a 10 year strategic plan for Ibadan’, Alli emphasised

Penpushing also reports that Alli, who is the General Manager, Impact Business Radio and Impact African Television, Ibadan, however said that the events served as avenue in bringing the  Ibadan sons and daughters together.
