Iftar: Ogun state deputy governor hosts Islamic groups
The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele on Monday hosted 20 Islamic groups across the state as she called on Nigerians to embrace peaceful co-exitence, pointing out that the country is unique in all ramifications.
Penpushing reports that the ceremony was held at the Deputy Governor’s lodge located within the Government Reservation Area(GRA), in Ibara, Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, and had female muslims as larger participants.
The Deputy Governor while speaking at the Iftar with the Islamic groups noted that Nigeria, having about 200 different ethnic group, with 2 major religion, hence, the need for ethnic and religious tolerance.
“Despite our differences and challenges, we have to come together to protect the interest of the country and make sure of its greatness. At the end of the day we all have identities, the important thing is that we learn good lessons that no religion preaches violence, it is for the good and benefits of humanity, so we should all imbibe, and make sure this doesn’t divide us’, she added,
‘This country has been a country about 200 ethnic groups, and two major religion for as long as the country being together. It is our responsibility as a leader in this generation to make sure the country remains one and doesn’t get divided”, she emphasised
Penpushing further reports that the Chief Missioner of Nawarudeen, Sheik Abdul Mojeed Ayinla in his lecture encouraged the congregants to imbibe the tenets of Islam, stressing that the peaceful co-existence between all religions should be paramount.
The Islamic cleric noted that charity begins at home, explaining that women form part of nurturing peace in society by taking responsibility of bringing the family together, and take care of the next generation and responsible for good governance.
