Ifa accepts redeem church pastor as new Soun of Ogbomoso
The Ifa, a known Yoruba deity, responsible for choosing a traditional ruler in Yorubaland may have accepted the emergence of Pastor Afolabi Olaoye, cleric of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) as the new Soun of Ogbomoso.
Penpushing reports that this followed approval by the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, in a statement by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, on Saturday.
The new monarch, it is recalled had last year, said he had earlier heard voice of God on January 2, 2022 that becoming the Soun of Ogbomoso as his(Olaoye) destiny, adding that before then he was not interested but had to tell Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Church
Penpushing further reports that Olaoye said he called his spiritual father to intimate him, adding that the General Overseer advised him not to say that but to fast and pray about it, stating that did not take the advice seriously as he did not pray about it.
“I heard God told me on January 2, 2022, that becoming the Soun of Ogbomoso was my destiny. The next thing I heard, clearly, ‘You were born for this; this is the reason for your birth.’ That’s what I heard. Of course, that’s not what I was expecting. But, let me tell you this is what I heard, I am 10/10,” he said.
Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that after the demise of Oba Jimoh Ajagungbade on December 2021 at the age of 95 years after he reigned for 48 years, the throne became vacant, and the selection of a new monarch became a legal battle
The Chairman of the Screening Committee for Laoye Ruling House in Ogbomoso, Abdulwahab Laoye, posited that the family had not selected anybody to fill the vacant stool for some years, before the issues were laid to rest
Penpushing reports that a statement pronouncing Olaoye as the new traditional ruler of the ancient town issued by the Commissioner on the approval of the Governor explained that announcement followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law.
The Governor’s approval as stated in the statement also urged all sons and daughters of the town to work with the new monarch to consolidate the successes of his forefathers, and congratulated Olaoye for his ascension to the throne
Penpushing reports that the statement emphasized that the exalted position of his foerbears has placed the monarch-elect in the position to facilitate harmony, understanding and tolerance amongst his subjects.
