I WILL LEAD MEDIA TO FIGHT HATE SPEECH BILL IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, SAYS AKINROGUN OSOBA
The Akinrogun(warlord) said the current political office holders at all levels are beneficiaries of the sustained fight for return to democracy in Nigeria, recalling that many journalists suffered detention and others ran to exile out of the country while fighting military dictatorship.
Penpushing further reports that, Osoba recalled that some newspaper houses were closed down and some bombed by the military junta, and therefore urged the National Assembly members to bear all these in mind when debating the hate speech bill.
The former Governor pointed out that Nigerians generally will all be victims of the provisions of the bill if allowed to sail through stressing that it will destroy the fundamental rights enshrined in the country constitution.
Penpushing also reports that Osoba who was Chairman of the Conference said there are enough laws in our statute for aggrieved members of the society to protect them against libel and defamation, and gave his personal experiences when he had cause to take some newspapers to court in the past when he felt defamed during his two time tenure as Governor of Ogun State.
