I was not a politician when nominated as Vice President, but now an active politician, says Osinbajo
The Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday said he was not a politician when nominated as running mate of President Muhamad Buhari, but said he is now an politician who is qualified to run the affairs of the country as a President.
Penpushing reports that, Osinbajo made this known when he visited Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo in his palace in Abeokuta, as part of his consultation to seek support for his presidential ambition ahead of 2023.
‘By providence I was nominated as Vice President. But I am now a politician, who is qualified to be President Buhari has been opened to me, he had made me to see things. He never feted my decision as acting president’, he said.
Penpushing further reports that, Osinbajo explained that, when opportunity now came for him to run for the presidential race, he asked himself how he would perform, adding that in the process he discovered himself as fit.
‘When opportunity arose for me to run presidency, I asked question, how I will perform. Today all am required is offer loyalty for my country. We are making progress in the journey; all our leaders are joining me in the journey. Come May 29, 2023 I will be sworn in as Nigeria next President’, he emphasised.
Penpushing also reports that, the Vice President said he was not in the state to campaign, but to inform his people of his intention to run for the office of the president, adding that he had consulted widely across all sections of the society, including with President Muhammadu Buhari before he threw his hat into the ring to succeed his boss.
The aspirant recounting his contributions to the present federal government said he was actively involved in the judiciary reforms and its repositioning to work optimally, and ensure that judges are adequately enumerated.
Penpushing reports that, he said his working with President Buhari has exposed him to governance at the highest level and placed him in a position to tackle serious issues concerning economy, security, among others.
“The Vice President position is an opportunity to serve and I have served with utmost loyalty. I put everything into my work. I am a candidate who will hit the ground running when I am elected’, he stated.
“I have the requisite knowledge to do the job and building on what others have put in place. My presidency will bring peace, unity and development to the country. After all I have learnt if called upon to serve the nation, should I say No?’ , Osinbajo said
‘I have decided that I will run for the office. I have sworn an oath to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is an oath to our people, our children and the future of Nigeria. I owe nobody else any allegiance outside the oath”, he added.
Penpushing further reports that, the monarch in response to the visit, prayed for the aspirant, who he described as a pride of Ogun State, adding that if elected as President he should not forget home support for him
The royal father, attested to the competence of Osinbajo, saying, he has paid his dues and is eminently qualified to succeed as President, expressing optimism that he would come back to his palace as a President and Nigeria will be gain tremendously under his watch,.
Penpushing also reports that, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun who earlier hosted Osinbajo declared that his administration will support his (Osinbajo) presidential ambition to enable him continue with some of the laudable projects of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
“The Vice President present here is home coming. We are pleased with his decision to run for the office of the president. He is competent and committed to lead the country in a higher capacity’, he added.
“Your steadfastness, integrity and character are all well known. You are serving this country and the president meritoriously for the last seven years as the vice president. We have no doubt that you will do well as the president and we will support you”, Abiodun stated.
Penpushing reports that, Abiodun, who extolled Osinbajo’s academic exploit, recalled how he stood behind his gubernatorial election and described him as a man who is interested in fairness, justice, equity and the rule of law.
