I have no preferred candidate in Lagos State Journalists election, says National President

The National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo has distanced himself from speculations of having choice and preferred candidates in the forthcoming election of new executive for the Lagos State Council.

Penpushing reports that, Isiguzo made the clarification in a statement, saying that he has been inundated with calls and text messages suggesting that he has candidates in the council election, hence need for him to clear the air

‘I want to first of all express my profound gratitude to you all for the support you’ve extended to me and by extension the National leadership of our great Union. Lagos Council has always remained a unique council for obvious reasons and I can assure you that I don’t take your support for granted’.

‘However, in recent weeks, I’ve been inundated with calls and text messages suggesting that I have a candidate or better still candidates in next Thursday’s election in Lagos Council. Ordinarily, I would have decided to ignore them as normal happenings with election but on a second thought, I’ve decided to clear the air once more’.

‘Let it be clearly noted that I have no preferred candidate or candidates in the coming electionEverybody taking part in the election is a member of the union and by God’s Grace and by the mandate given to me by members of the union, I am today, the Chief Servant of the Union and as such must protect every member’.

Penpushing further reports that, the number one journalists restated that he would be very much pleased to work with whoever emerges on the election day, being members of same journalism family.

The President added that, the national secretariat of the union remains neutral in the forthcoming election and has so far shown that in all the steps taking in the build up to the election, adding that all aspirants who have been cleared to vote in the election will do so without any inhibitions.

‘I want to appeal to all the candidates to ensure that they conduct themselves well during and after the election because the union makes us strong. I want to reassure you all that all those who have been cleared to vote in the election will do so without any inhibitions.

‘Let’s maintain an appreciable level of decorum and civility as we gradually get to the zero hour and not allow election to create any gulf in our united family. Once again, I appreciate you all for your believe in our union. Let’s continue to keep hope alive. God bless you all’,Isiguzo wrote
