I escaped assassination on my way for new year celebration, says Nigerian senator

The Kaduna Central Senator, Lawal Usman, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced his narrow escape from suspected assassins while visiting his constituency for the New Year celebration.

Penpushing reports that the federal lawmaker who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, confirmed the incident on his verified Facebook account, adding that the incident occurred in Kaduna North local government area of Kaduna State

The witnesses corroborating Usman’s claim said   assailants attacked and pelted his vehicle with stones and bottles immediately they sighted his convoy moving around the area, while one of his allies but alleged that the thugs were recruited by his political enemies.

Penpushing further reports that he explained that there had been criticisms against Usman’s performance at the National Assembly for non-performance since his election, stating that some of his constituents are not happy with the lawmaker.

The ally pointed out that before Usman was elected as a senator, he was distributing food items and money to people in many villages under his senatorial district but stopped after he was elected, claiming that the action angered the residents and that many people in the senatorial district have vowed to oppose his re-election.
