THREE THOUSAND SHITTE MEMBERS PARTICIPATED IN ABUJA VIOLENT PROTEST, SAYS POLICE

The police spokesman disclosed that fifty-four suspects known to belong to the detained El-Zazakky have been arrested in connection with the incidents, adding that the suspects are undergoing interrogation and will be arraigned in court as soon as possible

Penpushing further reports that, Mba said the Shitte members were  heavily armed  defying all sense of decency and  violently attacked innocent citizens and Police personnel on duty, and  also razed down a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Response Post close to the Federal Secretariat, Abuja and two  vehicles.

The statement said the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu while commiserating with the family of the late police boss, condemned the incident and warned that ‘enough-is-enough as the Force and the nation at large will not continue to suffer losses on account of reckless and lawless persons and groups in the society’.

Penpushing also reports that, the Group, Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in its own account said, 11 of its members were killed during the protest, while the Amnesty International in a statement said it got a report that “six people were shot dead

The Inspector General of Police said he held a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over the incident, to update him, explaining that, “specifically we briefed him of the incessant acts coming out of this group of people, protesting here and there’.

He added, “We briefed him on the fact that we have been able to curtail their excesses and to let him understand that everything is under control.”

Penpushing reports that, the police boss told journalists that, on the President’s reaction, he was asked  ”to make sure the police provides security for every citizen of Nigeria and not to leave any space that some group of people will create a breakdown of law and order”.
