Gunmen kill News Agency of Nigeria correspondent’s father

Gunmen have killed 86 year old father of a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Daniel Yatai, and abducted his niece, Brenda Friday, when they stormed their residence on Tuesday night at Manchok Kaduna State.

Penpushing reports that, the deceased who was a retiree of the Nigeria Railway Corporation in 1991, was reported to have been shot through the window, while the bullet hit him from the back, and thereafter the gunmen went to his room and finished him up..

The daughter of the deceased Christiana Yatai, who witnessed the murder and abduction said the gunmen came to the house at about 11:15 p.m, adding that having forced their way into the house, they shot sporadically

“We were five in the house; myself, my dad, my mum, two of my niece and a nephew. They asked us to open the door and when we refused, they broke the main entrance and gained access to the house. My father was in his room and one of them wearing a mask, who was outside, shot him through the window and the bullet hit him from the back’, she said.

“Those who entered the house later went to his room and finished him up. They went away with one of my nieces, Brenda Friday, 21, a final year student of Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya,” she narrated.

Penpushing further reports that, Joseph Yatai, who is the son of the deceased said as at the time of filing this report, the gunmen had contacted the family and demanded a N15 million ransom to release the abducted sister.

Meanwhile, the  Kaduna Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Jalige, as at the time of filing this report was yet to make any official statement on the ugly development, but promised to get back to journalists.
