Gunmen kidnap travellers on Akure-Ikere road
Gunmen have reportedly abducted an unspecified number of travellers between Ikere-Ekiti and Iju at the boundary of Ondo and Ekiti states, while sources as at the time of filing this report said the passengers may have been taken into the forest around Iju
Penpushing reports that the sources said the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had earlier ambushed the passengers, while two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a white Highlander, which had no one in them and were riddled with bullets, were found at the scene of the incident.
The source added that the incident happened on Thursday evening, but became known on Friday morning when the bullet-riddled vehicles were discovered, stating that the incident had been reported to the police.
Penpushing further reports that the Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Olufunmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident but could not ascertain the number of people involved as at the time of this report
The police spokesperson explained that men from the anti-kidnapping section of the command swung into action soon after the report and have since been combing the forest, however, noted that there has been no official report from the family or families of the owners of the two vehicles.
Penpushing also reports that Odunlami said there was no report of missing people in the state, however, gave assurance that the police would soon unravel what took place and rescue the victims if it was a case of abduction.
