Gunmen invade university of Abuja staff quarters, abduct professor, children
Gunmen on Tuesday invaded the staff quarters of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), abducted, Prof Obansa Joseph, of the Economic Department and two of his children, as well as other people.
Penpushing reports that, a source disclosed that the gunmen stormed the senior staff quarters at Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council at 1 a.m, adding that as at the time of filing this report, identities of other abductees could not be ascertained.
The University Public Relations Officer, Habib Yakoob, confirmed the incident, adding that the victims are about six, affirming that aside the professor and his children, a non academic staffer was also abducted
“Yes, I just confirmed that the information is true. Apart from the professor and his children, a non-academic staffer was also involved. They are about six victims’, the university image maker said.
Penpushing further reports that, Yakoob, however, added that security operatives have been mobilised to secure their freedom, adding that the security operatives are on the trail of the suspects
The Professor an alumnus of the University of Abuja and the University of Lagos is described as a distinguished economist of repute, and his research interests include health economics and quantitative economic analysis
Penpushing also reports that Professor Obansa apart from teaching at University of Abuja (UNIABUJA, he is also a visiting professor of economics at Veritas University, also in Abuja.
The kidnapped don has published extensively in reputable national and international journals and has served in several management and administrative capacities at the University of Abuja.
Penpushing reports that,, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, as at the time of filing this report was yet to respond to enquiries concerning the attack.
