Gunmen behead youth leader in Akwa Ibom state
Gunmen suspected to be cultists have reportedly dragged a youth leader of Inen Clan in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State to a corner in his compound where he was thoroughly beaten and subsequently cut off his head
Penpushing reports that, the victim, Hezekiah Adaiden’s death brings to 11 the number of cult-related killings recorded in the community from 2020 to 2022, with the latest said to have occurred on Sunday at about 1 a.m.
The Akwa-Ibom Police Command Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, who confirmed the incident, described it as barbaric, and gave assurance that the perpetrators would be apprehended and not escape punishment.
Penpushing also reports that, it was gathered that the suspected cultists who were known to the deceased visited him where he entertained them with drinks, and another group later arrived and descended on the victim.
The gunmen reportedly broke into the victim’s house, tortured his wife and carted away valuables before fleeing, while a source disclosed that the gunmen arrived the victim’s compound at an odd hour of the day
“The cultists arrived at the compound at a very odd hour in the night and since they were known by the youth president he offered them drinks. While they were drinking another well-armed group arrived and were very violent as they dragged the victim to the corner and killed him’, the source emphasized
