
Gunmen attack police headquarters free inmates
Gunmen have attacked Awgu Divisional Police Headquarters in Enugu State, broke into a cell and freed inmates being detained, as well as killing one police constable identified as Emmanuel Akpa.
Penpushing reports that sources said the hoodlums invaded the police facility at about 2 a.m. in Awgu town located in Awgu Local Government Area of the state, and equally carted away some rifles and ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, Bitrus Giwa, as at the time of filing this report was said to have deployed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations alongside two police squads to strengthen security in the area.
Penpushing further reports that the Command Public Relations Officer Daniel Ndukwe, was yet to make any official statement on the ugly development as at the time of filing this report, but a senior police officer who preferred anonymity confirmed the development.
The officer was quoted saying that the attack actually happened, but could not established the number of operatives killed in the attack, stating that he did not have the information as at the time of this report.
Penpushing also reports that in similar development some gunmen also attacked the Inyi Divisional Police Headquarters in Oji-River Local Government Area of the state, but sources said no life was lost in the attack, which was repelled by police operatives on duty.
