TWO RESIDENTS SHOT DEAD AS SUSPECTED CUSTOMS OFFICIALS CHASE SMUGGLERS

The bullets reportedly hit two persons, with one of them a vulcanizers identified as Monday Adeyemi and died on the spot, while the driver of the smugglers vehicle lost control and summersaulted into bush

Penpushing further reports that, following the ugly development the alleged suspected customs officials immediately ran away in their vehicle of operations, and could not be trace as at the time of filing this report.

The residents and other motorist plying the road were helpless and said to be running helter skelter to avoid being victim of the gunshot, while in the course of the rowdy situation the alleged and suspected customs operatives escaped from the scene.

Penpushing reports that, the Public Relations Officer,  Ogun State Command of the Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada when contacted said the command has  launched an investigation in conjunction with relevant sister agencies to get to the root of the incident.

‘Sequel to the report received on an unfortunate incident that occured at Ewekoro LGA of Ogun State on Tuesday afternoon of 17/09/2019, Nigeria Customs Service Ogun Command has launched an investigation in conjunction with relevant sister agencies to identify what actually transpired at the scene of accident and the identification of the official vehicle involved in the unfortunate event’, he said.

‘However, due to the presence of so many components involved in the ongoing national drill, the Command is exercising due diligence in order to effectively identify the team involved and the details of what actually transpired’,Maiwada stated.

‘As at the time of filing this report, the Command is yet to identify the vehicle involved and no report have been registered at any Customs formation within the State’, the customs spokesman emphasized in a statement.

Penpushing also reports that, the statement added that, the Command commiserate with the family and friends of those who lost their precious lives in the unfortunate circumstances,, with assurance that  the public will be availed with the fact surrounding the issue as soon as investigation is concluded.
