Guild of Corporate Online Publishers storms Lokoja for annual conference

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) on Monday arrived Lokoja, Kogi State Capital for 8th edition of annual conference with the theme, Nigeria: Tackling Insecurity, Power Deficit, and Transitioning to Digital Economy,”

Penpushing reports that members across the country arrived the town in the evening and led in a convoy with adequate security to the Riverton Hotel venue of the conference to hold between October 2 and 3, 2024

The conference to be hosted by the Kogi State Government will be declared open on Tuesday by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, while Malam Yusuf Mamman, former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain will chair the occasion.

Penpushing further reports that the keynote speaker is Senator Liyel Imoke, former Governor of Cross River State, while the guest speakers are Lt General Tukur Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff and Dr Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)

The panelists include Prof Rotimi Ajayi (Department of Political Science, Federal University of Lokoja and Ms Derah Ogazuma, Edutainment Communicator and Veteran Broadcaster, while it is recalled that previous speakers at the annual conference include Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto who delivered the 2019 lecture on “Economy, Security and National Development: The Way Forward”.

Penpushing also reports that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha in 2021 keynoted the Conference in his capacity as Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on coronavirus and spoke on: “Post Covid-19 Pandemic: Recovery and Reconstruction in Nigeria”.

The record has it that Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), delivered the keynote titled “2023 Elections: Managing the Process for Credible Outcome.”

Penpushing reports that in similar vein, at the 2023 edition which held in Abuja with the theme, Nigeria: Roadmap for Socio-Economic Recovery and Sustainability, was chaired by Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) while Professor Uche Uwaleke, a Professor of Capital Market delivered the keynote.

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) was borne out of the growing need to ensure that online publishers uphold the tenets of journalism in doing their jobs, while there is also the need to sanitize online publishing in Nigeria as it is the future of journalism in the country as it has become in developed countries.

Penpushing further reports the body of online publishers is a Non-Governmental, Non-Partisan, Non-Profit making organization, for the highest strata of working journalists who have attained the exalted position of editors in the journalism profession.
