Group warns Ogun state workers not to allow themselves being used as agents of blackmail ahead of 2023 poll
A Non-Governmental Organisation known as Ogun Workers Solidarity Front,
has advised civil servants and labour unions in Ogun state to guide against being used for hatchet jobs by suspected sponsors of blackmail against the the Governor and government.
Penpushing reports that the caution note was contained in a statement issued by Comrade Sola Akinyemi (Chairman) and Comrade Janet Adesina(Secretary) of the Front respectively, to congratulate the labour congress on the occasion of the 2022 May Day Celebration held on Sunday at Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
The Front in the congratulatory and solidarity statement captioned, “Lest We Forget”, saluted the courage and patriotism of Ogun state workers, urging them on need to continue to cooperate with the present administration in the state and emphasized that the workforce should be wary of ambitious and desperate politicians especially those who derided them in the recent past, adding that, as the country moves towards electioneering period they should be mindful of antics of some dubious politicians.
“As the nation moves towards electioneering, our vigilant workers must be wary of desperate politicians, including those who derided them in the recent past. We must not in anyway justify the abusive language of “No Brain”, which the former Governor called us at the peak of demanding for our rights”, the statement stressed
“There is no doubt that the present administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun has executed; and is executing, workers friendly initiatives including continuous payment of backlog of entitlements, implementation of the minimum wage, prompt payment of pensioners, offsetting arrears of pensions owed by past administration, carrying out promotion exercises at various levels which were delayed for years before the advent of the present government and so on; however we believe strongly that the government can do more, should our gallant workers assist the government to do more.”
“Considering the theme of this year’s celebration which centers on good governance, we want to give kudos to Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the exemplary leadership he displayed during the height of coronavirus pandemic, which starved-off the virus from the shores of Ogun despite the state’s closeness to Lagos, which was the epicenter of the pandemic” the body said
“We commend the Governor for safety projects such as building of new fire stations, refurbishing old ones, pitches of new fire trucks along with modern fire fighting tools; and the provision of free ambulance services across the 20 local government areas. As workers are enjoined to act together to build a positive safety and health culture at workplaces, we also urged them to join hands with the performing administration in its apparent commitment to the building our future together agenda”, the statement added
