Group wants adequate funding of political party that promotes interest of women in Nigeria

A  Non-Governmental Organisation, known as  100 Women Lobby Group Ogun State Chapter  has called for adequate funding of political party with interest of women fold in governance, and  actively supporting political quota of 35%.

Penpushing reports that, the body made the call at the end of the Gender mainstreaming session for profiled rural women in Ogun State held in Abeokuta, adding that there should also be mass education for women, girls, youths, families and the society on the need to support women’s aspiration in leadership

The communiqué issued and signed by Prof. Olubunmi Ashimolowo(Committee Chairperson) and Barrister Olajumoke Fadairo (Secretary Communiqué Committee) added that, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) needs to actively create measures to encourage voters’ registration and civic voting

‘There should be mass education on electoral violence for the citizenry. There should be awareness creation on vote buying menace in our electoral system. The INEC needs to actively create measures to encourage voters’ registration and civic voting We fully endorse additional funding for political parties who are actively supporting political quota of 35%’,the communiqué emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that, the body stated that there is need for the government to introduce the reimbursement of child care expenses incurred as a result of campaign to give room for equity and equality, stressing that the profiled women who have been trained are to train other women for sustainability purposes.

‘We recognize that the  overall  situation  of  women  and  girls in leadership in  Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole has not improved since  the  advent  of  the  current  democratic  dispensation  in  1999.  Women in leadership are bedeviled with challenges, which has lowered the morale, hopes and aspiration of women folks in general’, the group emphasised.
