Grandson steps into Baba Legba’s music shoes

The grandson of late Apala musician, Yusuf Olatunji, popularly known as Baba Legba, has stepped into his musical shoe 38 years after the demise in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital

Penpushing reports that, the grandson, Abideen Yusuf-Olatunji has re-awakened the music spirit of his grandfather with launched of his maiden album, the replica of his late grandfather’s musical work, and has equally released additional albums thereafter.

The grandson plays his grandfather’s violin, with the album capturing the essence of peace and unity in the country as it featured the Boko Haram crisis, social vices and democracy, and is promoted by Fatilah Global Entertainment, while the record was released under the label of Audiomila Studio.

Penpushing further reports that, the album, titled “Oke Agba Nfe Suru”, has some of its tracks celebrating former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and his traditional ruler colleagues across the country.

The chairman of Yusuf Olatunji Foundation, Oloye  Lekan Alabi, said the discovery of the music maestro would continue to put the name of the family in the world map of music, recalling that over six decades ago, it was the late Yusuf Olatunji who played at his(Alabi) naming ceremony.

Penpushing also reports that, Alabi disclosed that his love for Sakara Music genre of late Yusuf Olatunji prompted him to stand by his grandson, who, he said, had stepped into his musical shoe,stressing that the music of the deceased, which was loaded with education, morals and entertainment, remains evergreen.

The foundation chairman revealed that the late Olatunji in his lifetime produced over 300 albums, while the younger Olatunji told Penpushing that he was happy to inherit the musical trademark and vital instrument of his grandfather.
