By Yemisi Bamgbose

Today we are celebrating Araba Olusegun Osoba at 84.  Perhaps many didn’t even know that he is the Araba of Yewaland. During his tenure as the Governor of Ogun-State, he was addressed by the title of the Chieftancy he was bestowed in each of the three Senatorial Districts.

During the commissioning ceremonies of the numerous projects distributed in all the nooks and cranies of the 3 Senatorial District of Ogun-State, Chief Olusegun Osoba was deliberately and purposely introduced and addressed as Akinrogun of Egbaland in Ogun-Central, Aremo of Ijebuland  in Ogun-East and Araba of Yewaland in Ogun-West.

One other Chieftancy title that we liked to emphasise is the “Oluwo Oba”. “Oluwo a nikan j’ohun Ekun” One distinguished attribute of Chief Olusegun Osoba is his total loyalty and commitment to the Yoruba race.

He popularised the slogan “Odua ni mi tokan-tokan”. At the beginning of his speech in those days as the Governor of Ogun-State, you will hear him saying boldly “Odua ni mi tokan-tokan”

Governor Olusegun Osoba is a visisioner. He has foreseen the potentials in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and stood by him all through. I could remember the role he played when a section of the media was almost at dagger drawn during the buildup to the 2023 Presidential election. He swiftly doused the tension using his acceptability as a respected father to broker the needed peace.

There was no doubt that Governor Osoba used all he has to ensure the realisation of his dreams for Yoruba land by rallying all that matters in Yoruba land to support the candidature of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

When you see Akinrogun anytime, you will see the peace and satisfaction in his face. He has continued to maintain his low profile to the admiration of all. When I met him recently at an event in Abuja, I could see the fatherly love in him.

His memory is ever sharp. He doesn’t forget you no matter how far you are to him .He beckoned on me and help my hand. Olusegun Osoba,Obamode, omo tagbata, omo ilekoleru l’Oba.

Congratulations, Araba,Akinrogun and Aremo. Many happy returns, Sir.
