The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday presented the Staff of Office and certificate of appointment to the Alaafin-elect, Abímbola Owoade, at an event held at the Governor’s office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan
Penpushing reports that the occasion was graced by the Owoade alongside high chiefs and religious leaders from Oyo town, as well as the Awise Awo Agbaye and revered Ifa custodian, Prof Wande Abimbola who performed the Ifa divination to select the new Alaafin.
The Oyo State Government on Friday approved Owoade as the next Alaafin of Oyo, a development that has generated controversies with some Oyo indigenes condemning the governor for bypassing the kingmakers, known as Oyo Mesi in the selection of the new monarch.
Penpushing further reports that Owoade with his selection becomes the 46th traditional ruler of the ancient town, who succeeds the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, whose reign lasted five decades, while his coronation is expected to be held in Oyo town in the next couple of days.
