Governor Kefas set for formal defection to all progressives’ congress
The Taraba State Governor, Agbo Kefas is on his way out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pitch his tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC), and formally join the ruling party on Wednesday, November 19, 2025
Penpushing reports that Kefas gave this indication while speaking with journalists during an inspection tour of renovation works at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, explaining his decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was motivated by what he described as the need to secure Taraba’s future, insisting it was not driven by personal political ambition.
“On the 19th of November, I will officially transition from the PDP to the APC. This movement is about the destiny of the people of Taraba, and we are expecting many visitors for the ceremony’, he said.
Penpushing further reports that when asked whether the defection followed negotiations or conditions set by the All Progressives Congress (APC) declined to provide details, stating that his speech at the event clarify the circumstances and allow residents to judge for themselves
The planned defection of Kefas comes amid worsening internal tensions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which on Saturday expelled some chieftains, including the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose; and former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, at its national convention in Ibadan.
Penpushing also reports that with Kefas joining the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will control 25 states across the country, strengthening its political hold ahead of the 2027 general elections.
