Governor Abiodun assures employment opportunities for widows of fallen heroes
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured widows of fallen heroes in the state of employment opportunities, as well as including them in the Nigeria for Women Project.
Penpushing reports that Abiodun made this known, during the launch of the year 2025-Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem at the Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, adding that the yearly donation for the Legion would be increased from N10,000,000 to N15,000,000.
‘I am instructing the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to work with the Chairman of the legion to identify the widows that we can be employed immediately. On the same note of empowering widows, I have instructed my Deputy alongside the Commissioner for Women Affairs, that the widows of our fallen heroes should be included in our Nigeria for Women Project immediately,” he said.
The Governor explained that, the emblem being launched symbolises respect, gratitude and unwavering support for men and women who have sacrificed their lives to maintain the nation’s unity, saying that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
Penpushing further reports that he said, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a reminder of the duty of every Nigerian to support the family of the fallen heroes and see to the welfare of the Nigerian Legion.
The Governor assured that his administration would continue to support the Nigerian Army and all members of its sister security agencies, despite their placement on the exclusive list, adding that his administration would continue to allocate resources to equip security agencies in the state.
Penpushing also reports that Abiodun pointed out that the gathering was beyond mere date marking on the calendar, but a day to pay tribute to the extraordinary sacrifices of those who have served the country diligently.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Master Warrant Officer Orukotan Olumuyiwa (Rtd) in his remarks noted that the launch of the emblem, symbolizes sacrifices made by men of the armed forces in battlefields for the restoration of peace and maintenance of the territorial integrity of the country.
Penpushing reports that he commended the Governor for continuously providing financial support for widows of the fallen heroes, and appreciated him for not leaving out other veterans in the state from government welfare packages.
