Get rich quick syndrome: Police Deputy Superintendent lands in trouble over N100, 000 bribe

The get rich quick syndrome has landed a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Popoola Kayode, in trouble water alongside members of his team operating around Lekki Ajah area of Lagos State, for allegedly collecting N100, 000 bribe.

Penpushing reports that, the Head, Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce),Adebayo Taofiq, made this known  in a statement adding that the bribe was collected from a motorist..

The agency spokesman disclosed that the culprits having caught the victim, Didi Ekanem driving against traffic around Lekki-Ajah expressway in his  Toyota Venza car registration number APP 775 GJ arrested and subsequently collected the money

Penpushing further reports that, Taofiq said contrary to a report that, that the victim had insinuated that, the officials who collected bribe from her was taskforce commander, an investigation was conducted which later revealed the identity officers involved said to be police team led by the Deputy Superintendent

“The leader of the team, Kayode is not the Commander of the Agency as quoted in the report which said that the money (N100, 000) was collected via bank transfer to his (Kayode) account. After the transfer, the vehicle was then released to Ekanem,” the statement said.

Penpushing also reports that, Taofiq explained that head of the agency, Olayinka Egbeyemi upon investigation of the incident said to occur on Wednesday, November 18, immediately arrested the police superintendent with his team members, adding that, “they will be sent back to the Lagos State Police Command for further disciplinary actions’.

The Chief Superintendent of Police who is the unit head emphasized that, anyone caught in illegality would be charged to the Lagos State Mobile Court for prosecution, and cautioned members of the public to stop inducing officers with money, stressing that giver is also liable

“Members of the public should stop inducing our officers with money and be reminded that both the giver and receiver are liable in Law. It is only Court that pronounces traffic fines and money that will be paid into government purse’,Egbeyemi said.

Penpushing reports that, Head, Public Affairs Unit however, urged members of the public to always report any corrupt officer who engages in shady deals considered tarnish to the image of the agency for disciplinary actions.
