“NTA Abeokuta was near comatose until our daughter came here. We should all rise up to support our organisations, if NTA is performing very well, I mean NTA Abeokuta, is performing well, it will be able to help our security agencies, if NTA Abeokuta is performing well, it will be able to help our industrial organisations, if NTA Abeokuta is performing well, it will be able to support Ogun State government,
“Therefore, I seek this opportunity to call on the Governor of Ogun State through the SSG that is here that they should please rise up to support NTA Abeokuta”, recalling that NTA Abeokuta was in a bad condition, until the advent of the present administration, and this was because of the State of the country.
The Egba High Chief emphasized need for state government to support the station in its activities towards a sustaining the government and also bringing good governance to the people,just as he lamented Federal Government attitude to loan seeking.
“NTA Abeokuta was near comatose until our daughter came here. This is what we know because Nigeria itself is in trouble. How can you explain a country that spend 25% on development program of the country, and spends another 25% to service loans, loans that we take to pay the salaries of those that are cheating us’.
“Federal Government borrows money at the rate of 16% to 18%, what do we use it for? How can we get money to finance Institutions like this one, now governance is for the people by the people, now what is the solution?.
The former Acting National Chairman of All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP), while criticising the setup of protocols used in events, said “I don’t know the kind of protocol made by the politicians for themselves, protocols of the politicians, by the politicians and for the politicians”, and however, said, “the solution is that we have to take our fate in our hands,
Penpushing further reports that, he used the occasion calling on former member House of Representatives, Ladi Adebutu and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Tunde Lemo, to also contribute to development of the 40 year old station, stressing, “help us to get this place properly fitted and restructured for the purpose of the people and of the State in general”
Penpushing also reports that Bankole, popularly called ‘Caterpillar’ also enjoined the State Governor to do his best possible in supporting the station towards building strong institutions as to develop the State.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, in his address, congratulated the General Manager of the Station, Funmi Wakama, and her team on the anniversary.
“I’m aware that since you took over the mantle of leadership of this station, you’ve been a veteran broadcasting personnel, you’ve drawn up the vast knowledge of experience to better lots of station to move in line with directions of the founding fathers” he said.
The Governor also corroborated the existence of station since it’s establishment, as the widest reach in the whole Africa Continent, adding that it was really appreciated by people and government since the time of its existence.
“As a result, NTA Abeokuta was birthed in Abeokuta in 1979, and I must mention that in the last 40 years, NTA Abeokuta has continued to project the good governance even further until the grassroots and we believe that you will continue to do that, even until the years ahead,” he affirmed.
Penpushing also reports that, in her speech, the General Manager, Funmi Wakama, appreciated all guests and viewers of the station for making the day come true, and also for their cooperation and support towards the station since she became the head.
Meanwhile, some notable dignitaries at the anniversary include; Mrs Alaba Lawson(Iyalode Yorubaland), Sarafa Ishola(former Minister) Taiwo Adeoluwa(former Ogun State Secretary to the Government),Tunde Lemo(former Deputy Governor Central Bank of Nigeria),Yemisi Obilade(former Vice Chancellor Tai Solarin University of Education,TASUED), who was the guest lecturer, Mrs Seyi Aderinokun(Commissioner National Population Commission), Falilat Ogunkoya-Omotayo and Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji(founder Penpushing Media) among others
