Fuel scarcity: Motorists hike transport fares in Abuja, commuters stranded in Ogun state, others
The transport fares have increased significantly in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as commuters in Ogun State also became stranded and left to trek long distances following sudden scarcity of fuel in some major towns of Nigeria.
Penpushing reports that motorists were not left out of the hardship, as hundreds of them were sighted at various petrol stations to purchase fuel at view number of the stations dispensing the petrol at higher rates.
The findings equally showed that commuters among them students were struggling for few vehicles available on the road, while journalist and founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji was a victim of the scarcity who exhausted fuel in his car while returning from official function in Ibadan to Abeokuta, and became stranded midway of the journey
Penpushing further reports some parents who envisaged the plight their wards may face following the scarcity kept the school children back home, apparently not to subject them to mental torture associated with the scarcity
The situation got worsen when many of the fuel stations with the products resolved to sell between N700 and N800 per litre respectively, while findings equally revealed the products is put between N1,000 and N1,200 at black market.
Penpushing also reports that as a result of the development security operatives including soldiers and officials of the traffic management were seen controlling traffic due to gridlocks within vicinity of petrol stations dispensing the products.

Penpushing reports that transport fares jumped by over 50 per cent, depending on the routes, while number of filling stations in Wuye, the Central Business District, Wuse, Kubwa, Gwagwalada, Apo, and the Lugbe areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sold petrol at prices ranging between N680 and N700.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) Olufemi Soneye, it is recalled in the wake of the worsening fuel crisis warned petroleum products consumers against panic buying and hoarding of fuel.
Penpushing further reports that Soneye, explained last Thursday that the challenge in the supply of petrol currently being experienced in some areas across the country is a result of logistics issues and they had been resolved.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) said the issue had nothing to do with the corporation as the company had enough stock of petroleum products.
‘We have abundant products. It is just a transportation glitch. Some trucks are already loading from Lagos and are coming into Abuja. Everything should be back to normal hopefully by the end of today’, he said
‘You will see that all the trucks will start coming in. So there is nothing to be concerned about. I also wish to reiterate that the prices of petroleum products are not changing. I urge Nigerians to avoid panic buying as there is a sufficiency of products in the country’, Soneye added.
