Four people killed in Akwa-Ibom State cult clash
A renewed clash between two rival cult groups in some communities around Nwaniba Road, which is notorious for cult-related killings and violence in Uyo Capital of Akwa-Ibom State has led to the death of four persons
Penpushing reports that Nwaniba Road which leads to a five-star hotel, the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, in the city and the permanent campus of the University of Uyo, has since Monday being experience sporadic shooting linked to the cultists
The source added that some residents have deserted their homes, while a journalist, Nora Iwang who was trapped along the notorious road wrote on her facebook page that she needs prayer for safety of her life
‘Please pray for me. I’m in danger. God, please save my life. Please avoid Nwaniba, it’s not safe. I went to Nwaniba to buy some medication at a pharmacy, so I ran into (the) cult clash. It was horrible. Something I have never seen before”, she wrote
Penpushing further reports that Iwang who was lucky to have escaped the crossfire on Tuesday explained that she was rescued out of the community by a friend around midnight, adding that it was a bad experience
The Akwa-Ibom Police Command Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon in a statement confirmed the clash as well as death of four people, but as at the time of filing this report could not ascertain if it was a cult clash
Penpushing also reports that MacDon, a superintendent of police, said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olatoye Durosinmi, has vowed to bring the perpetrators of the violence and killing to book, adding that police have been deployed to the area to restore order and fish out the perpetrators,
