Former lawmaker, Segun Williams mourns Agura of Gbaguraland
A former member of the House of Representatives Hon. Segun Williams has commiserated with people of Gbagura over the transition of the monarch, Oba Babajide Sabur Bakre, describing it as a great loss not only to the Gbagura community but Egba, Ogun state and the nation at large.
Penpushing reports that Williams stated this during his condolence visit to the palace of Agura in Oke Ido area of Gbagura, and thereafter paid homage to the Oloroguns and the Ogbonis who are now the custodians of the palace pending the emergence of a traditional ruler
The two term federal lawmaker accompanied by some political leaders in Ogun State, however, took time to sign a condolence register in memory of the late monarch, describing the deceased as a rare custodian of tradition culture and role model for a better society.
Penpushing further reports that Williams who represented Abeokuta South Federal Constituency observed that the death came as a rude shock to him and residents of the town, as well as the palace, stating that Bakre during his life time was able to create a new lease of lives in over 72 towns and communities of Gbaguraland.
The late royal father was installed the 9th Agura of Gbagura in May 2019 by the former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and joined his ancestors 14th of June 2023 at the age of 61, and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
