FORMER KASTINA PERMANENT SECRETARY BAGS SEVEN YEARS OVER N2MILLION FRAUD
At as the time of the crime, the convict was a permanent secretary attached to the office of the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, who on the pretext that the Office would award the complainant a contract for the supply of fertilizer to all the Local Government areas in Katsina State.
The former permanent secretary claimed that the money was for the purchase of bidding documents, while it was further alleged that after obtaining the money, he cut all contacts with the complainant.
However, counsel of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad in the course of prosecution called three witnesses and tendered many exhibits, and after both parties closed their case on the October 3, 2017, final written addresses were adopted and the case was subsequently adjourned to December 29 for judgment.
Meanwhile, delivering his judgment, Justice Sanusi Tukur said he was convinced that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and pronounced the accused guilty as charged and subsequently sentenced him to seven years imprisonment without option of fine.
