Former Editor Sunday Sketch, Mike Omoleye is dead

A former Editor of the defunct Sunday Sketch and Veteran journalist, Chief Mike Omoleye has been reported dead.

Penpushing reports that a veteran journalist High Chief Tola Adeniyi confirmed the demise in a statement describing the deceased as great and pioneering mind, adding that by his passage journalism has lost an iconic light.

“The Oye-Ekiti-born veteran journalist began his meritorious career in journalism over six decades ago. After voluntarily retiring from the Sketch newspapers in 1977 he set up a flourishing commercial press which he made available to several private newspapers in Ibadan and environs’, Adeniyi wrote.

“He established his own newspaper, Sunday Glory where he continued his column writing. Author of several books including the popular “The Awo I knew”, other titles in his stable were books on Kabala and spiritual and esoteric subjects”, added.

Penpushing further reports that the statement said the late journalism guru was born January 26, 1940, and worked his way through journalism to national recognition and relevance and through his foray into Kabala confraternity earned international renown.

“A very close associate of Obafemi Awolowo the Avatar, and Justice Adewale Thompson, Chief Omoleye contributed a lot, behind the scenes, to Yoruba emancipation.He was a very active member of the Yoruba Council of Elders and a much respected League of Veteran Journalists”, Adeniyi wrote.

“A great and pioneering Mind has passed. By his passage, Journalism has lost an iconic light. May his gallant and pioneering soul rest in peace”, the statement added
