Former Chairman Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Hakeem Akintunde is dead

The former Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State Chapter, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde has been reported dead after prolonged battle with cancer.

Penpushing reports that Akintunde, a versatile broadcaster and respected sports guru, popularly called Akoko lost the battle for survival on Wednesday night.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Ogun State Chapter in a statement confirmed demise of Akintunde which marks the end of a remarkable career defined by dedication, excellence, and an unwavering passion for journalism and sports.

Penpushing further reports that the deceased throughout his career, demonstrated exceptional commitment to the media profession, serving with distinction as Director of Programmes at Ogun State Television (OGTV).

‘He lived and breathed journalism and sports until his last moments, earning admiration for his depth of knowledge, professionalism, and enduring contributions to the broadcasting industry”,the statement reads.

Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this report the family will be meeting to discuss and announce arrangements for the burial, just as the deceased colleagues , friends, and well-wishers have been calle to pray for the repose of the late Akintunde and to remember his family in this difficult time, asking that they be granted the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
