Former anti-crimes commission chairman Ibrahim Lamorde dies in Egypt hospital
The former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Lamorde has been reported dead at 61 in Egypt where he had travelled for medical treatment.
Penpushing reports that the deceased was born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in 1984. He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986.
The late former boss of the anti-graft joined the Nigerian Police in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021, and while a police officer, he served chairman of the anti-crimes commission between 2011 and 2015.
Penpushing further reports that Lamorde was the third Executive Chairman of the Commission, was appointed in an acting capacity as chairman of the commission on November 3,2011 following the removal of Farida Waziri by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The deceased was confirmed as the third substantive chairman of the commission by the Senate on February 15, 2012, and when the commission was created in 2003, he was made the pioneer Director of Operations. In December 2007.
Penpushing reports that Lamorde took over as Acting Chairman in January 2008, holding the position until Waziri was appointed Chairperson and confirmed by the Senate in June 2008, and In December 2010, Lamorde returned to the agency, again as Director of Operations to replace Stephen Otitoju, the then Acting Director of Operations.
The record has it that the deceased, when Waziri was replaced on November 23, 2011, was again appointed Acting Chairman, when he was then an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), a position he held till November 9, 2015, when President Buhari replaced him with Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman in an acting capacity of the agency.
